Koloda
Or as we pronounce it in Arabic, seven is an iconic number in Nubian culture, and the ancient Nubian customs associated with the aesthetics and sanctity of number seven have multiplied
In Koloda, in order to restore the manifestations of the number seven and in line with the connotations of the sacred number, the artist Nahid Baba met with six young Nawaba women artists, each of whom had her own artistic experience.
In this exhibition, each of the seven artists has her own art tools to present her own project and the building on her own answers to her questions about her origins and what her inherent Nubian roots mean, namely, the flashes of tales from parents and grandparents and attempts to live in the momentum of modern development and openness between her modern and the crowds of daily events in the city where she grew up and learned.
This exhibition monitors this contradictory life struggle between excessively modern and intrinsically sealed heritage and roots, uniting and combining the synergies that mingle with the connections of oneself, creating unique artistic experiences with diverse treatments that characterize their work in the symbolic, expressive, decorative, analytical and recording style of Nubian heritage aesthetics.
They all presented contemporary designs as the link between previous and present generations.
We present in our exhibition "Koloda" of researching the problematique of heritage references, combining modern technologies and developing conceptual descriptions in visual formative texts in contemporary vocabulary
